Depeche Mode 1988

By racket racket

First broadcast in 1988 on BBC2’s That Was Then… This Is Now series that looked at pop music phenomenons of the 1980s. This episode featured Basildon’s Depeche Mode.

Produced by David G. Croft, the Depeche Mode edition features half an hour of conversations with Dave Gahan and Andy Fletcher interspersed with some of the band’s famous promo videos, BBC television appearances and the like. A nostalgic insight into a band, at their creative peak, who went on to conquer the world with their trademark, dark, almost grungey electronic music style in the late 1980s and beyond.

We thought we would take the opportunity to take a look at some of the early classic Depeche Mode singles and the 12″ record sleeves on Mute Records that they were packaged in. Hope you enjoy looking at those and watching the documentary.
