Spiritualized were firing on all cylinders during last night’s performance at the Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh. A mesmerisingly fantastic gig would be no understatement.
They’re one of the best UK bands of the last twenty years and possibly the only 90s independent ‘guitar-based’ act who continue to excite us with their new material and live performance credentials. We can’t wait for the new LP which is due for release in March 2012.
The gig was in two parts – the first of which saw the band with Jason sat playing guitar and singing alongside two gospel singers and several guitars, bassist and drummer play what must be the new album in it’s entirety. It didn’t disappoint. The final song of the first part was especially superb. A triumphant sonic celebration of swirling sound. The second part was basically a greatest hits set which included Run, Sway, Shine A Light, Spacemen 3’s Take Me To The Other Side and to finish things off the spiritually anthemic, Happy Days.
Here’s a reminder of some of those stone cold classic Spiritualized numbers.
Gutted I missed it. Such fond & amazing memories of the acoustic mainline gig in the same venue.
Long Live Jason Spaceman
Here’s the audio from most of the new album ripped off that YouTube of the Guardian gig: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q5FT06NG
