Ukraine based DJ and record collector, Pavel Plastikk presents the latest Racket Racket mix installment. The Countryside guides us through a very mellow, summertime, countryside comedown.
The Countryside
We’re big fans of Pavel’s musical taste. A resident at Kiev’s Low Party at Xlib Club – a monthly party with a downtempo, psychedelic, Balearic and disco infused musical policy – his mixes for LN-CC, Finger Mag, Test Pressing and The Growing Bin in recent times have had a lot of love and a lot of listens over at Racket Racket HQ. Over and above his Ukranian DJ residency Pavel has played all over Europe. Bill Brewster’s Lowlife night at Corsica Studios in London and the Aficionado Boat party at Electric Elephant in Croatia for example, as well as playing at many of the usual spots – Moscow, Berlin, London, Hamburg, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki etc.
For The Countryside mix, Pavel has put together a downtempo and forlorn, at times otherworldy and at times a little emotional, selection of records which flows with a quiet, unaffected beauty through lo-fi ambient, off kilter jazz, classical and pastoral folky vibes, soulful and laid-back synth-led numbers through to some timeless (but maybe overlooked) 80s and 90s indie-pop and a beautiful instrumental cover version of Tears For Fears most memorable and iconic pop moment as well as a cover version of Chris Rea’s inadvertent Balearic classic. As a whole, this really deserves your contemplative attention and should provide the perfect accompaniment to long summer days and lazy summer nights, regardless of the environs you’re listening in.
